The Lover's Dictionary

All my plans got cancelled today due to continuous rain and flooded areas. This allowed me to finally finish this book which I just discovered this week through a list of best sellers I found online. It's not a typical love story told in chronological order but it's a dictionary with a twist. It was a light and enjoyable read that will put you in different moods.

At first I thought it was a dictionary for terms that are used when talking about relationships and love but surprisingly, they were words that were interpreted based on the experiences of the speaker. Somehow the words are like puzzle pieces that reveal the speaker's love story. It was not in specific order and more like the speaker is telling his story based on specific and random moments from his love life. I had a lot of favorite lines and I would like to share some with you:

Source: All quoted from the book

Note: These are only SOME of my favorite lines. If I would highlight all my favorite lines, the book would end up looking like a coloring book. =P

These lines made me love the feeling of being in love. Also, I think the author was able to put in words some hard to explain emotions or thoughts. It feels as if I'm part of the story because there were instances that made me relate to what he was telling or feeling and sometimes I feel like I'm the other person he was talking to. This book isn't really a reference book but a love story unraveled slowly by the speaker's random memories of the past. It's emotional and romantic but it's not heavy drama. His story isn't the fairy tale type but I would say it's more realistic. He's the typical guy who goes madly in love and experiences the ups and downs of being in a relationship. There were also moments that would crack you up:

macabre, adj.
If you ever need proof that I love you, the fact that I allowed you to dress me up as a dead baby Jesus for Halloween should do it. Although I suppose it would be even better proof if it hadn’t been Halloween.

Whether you're in a relationship or not, I think this book is a must read. It will make you say "awwww" and some lines will make your heart break (especially if you can relate to it). I loved how David Levithan soulfully expressed how he felt at that time and how cleverly found words that would somehow summarize that moment. I highly recommend this to everyone including my guy friends. Unfortunately, I believe this book is for adults only. (Sorry tweens!)

Young at Heart

It was my friend's 30th birthday celebration with a cartoon character theme. Since I didn't have any costume ready, I just made use of borrowed and some owned resources to create my look.

I decided to go as Minnie Mouse since it's one of the easiest characters to dress up as =)

To get the look, you would need:

A Minnie Mouse headband from Disneyland HK (borrowed from Bessy)

A Black Blouse (own)

A red and white polka dot skirt.

But since it's hard to find one, I just improvised. =) From a plain red skirt which I bought for P100 from ukay, I added white dots by using masking tape. I used a drilling gauge to draw circles and I cut it out one by one. After the party I just have to remove the dots so I can use the skirt =P

White Socks and Doll Shoes

Minnie mouse wore yellow shoes but I just put on doll shoes to get a childish look haha.

With other kids at heart

The night was filled with super naughty and super fun games. I was laughing so hard because the hosts (including the celebrant) were hilarious! Too bad I left early and I missed a lot of funny moments.
Lucky for Chris, he does not look 30. I think his jolly personality sustains his high energy and that subtracts the years from his real age. I guess the true secret to look and feel young is by being happy. You would no longer need beauty creams nor plastic surgeries just to keep your youthful glow. A happy heart would truly reveal itself with how a person looks. It’s a natural anti-aging treatment which is really effective. Happiness doesn’t stop the age but it could slow the process of aging. So stay happy and don’t count the years =P

Happy Birthday Chris =)

A Birthday Room Raid

My best friend celebrated her birthday last weekend and we decided to have a "slumber date" (a slumber party with just the 2 of us haha). It felt like we were in high school again and we had so much fun catching up. Words are not enough to describe this fabulous woman so I decided to raid her room and took snap shots of her favorite stuff.

Her green Zara pumps.
Her majestic ring.
The kikay who's loyal to Mac.
Ms. Workaholic
Call Me Maybe? =P
Her bright and colorful wardrobe
Prints galore - animal, aztec, cosmic and floral
Bling Blings
Killer Shoes

From her stuff you can already see her fun and lively personality. But her real identity is not revealed in her shoes nor in her bag but in her BIG BIG heart. I Love You Bessy =) Happy Birthday =)

Do the Denim

Lately, I've been spotting A-list celebrities wearing denim shirts. They all look fabulous and at the same time it looked really comfortable. It's very versatile as you can make it really girly or make it look rugged. I believe it's a must-have item for every girl.

Kate Bosworth

Ashley Greene

Ashley Olsen
Vanessa Hudgens wearing Jen's Pirate Booty Guipil Texas Tuxedo Shirt in Denim

Katie Holmes wearing a 1969 Denim Gap Top with ripped jeans

Rachel Bilson and Hilary Duff
Pins and Needles Tie-Front Chambray Top $ 49
Rails Jayden Buttondown Denim Shirt with Collar Tips $127
I'm now in search for the perfect denim top. Not too big nor too small. Just with the right fit to easily match it with leggings, shorts or skirts. Hopefully I could find one with the right shade (not too faded) and with the right texture and thickness so I can still wear it with the humid weather. I also hope it would not be too expensive =P

A Unique Fathers Day Celebration

Celebrated Fathers Day by going to Mafbex 2012 at World Trade Center with the whole family. My dad was interested in food equipment while I was there to check out the food. There were lots of booths offering different kinds of goods and services like caterers, furniture, websites and more.

I loved these biscuits from Malaysia. I bought 3 big packs for P200. The cheese flavor was so yummy. I heard that they will now be distributing here in the Philippines. Yey! Note: Julie's (biscuits) is a different brand from Julie's Bakeshop, just in case you're wondering =P

After spending the whole afternoon strolling around World Trade Center and munching on food, it's time to officially celebrate Fathers day at Kamameshi House along Zobel Roxas St. in Makati.

They served hot tea to warm our hungry tummies =P

While waiting for our orders, we were served with beansprouts and sweet dilis which has been a childhood favorite. I remembered asking for refills when they still had a branch at Broadway Centrum which has been closed a looong time ago.

We ordered hot miso soup which was perfect for the rainy evening.

This brought a lot of memories. The authentic style of preparing their own kettle rice - "Gomoku Kamameshi".

The rice was really moist and was filled with veggies. This is definitely the best Jap rice I've ever had (so far).

We didn't miss to order Tempura which is a family favorite.

My dad ordered Yakitori (grilled, skewered chicken meat cut into cubes).

My parents ordered Kakiage (deep-fried mixed vegetables dipped in tempura batter) which I'm not really fond of.

As a special treat for fathers day, they gave my dad free buko pandan for dessert and a 100-pesos GC haha =)

The place is quite old but it still has the Japanese vibe with their minimalist architecture and original Japanese art pieces.

I know it was quite weird to attend a food expo on fathers day but the important thing is my dad enjoyed every minute of it. He even brought home a bag full of brochures, catalogs and calling cards from the different booths he visited.

Happy fathers day to my Papa and to all the great fathers out there =)
